Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, on Monday said his administration was committed to implementing the modernisation of Mile12-Ikorodu road to improve movement in the area.
Fashola, at the celebration of his 1, 700 days in office, appealed to residents of the area for understanding, saying their present discomfort would soon be over.
He said, “The design of the road is ready and we are working with the Federal Government and the World Bank to conclude financing on the project, which will cost about N30bn.”
The governor said the government was also working to link Ikorodu with Ajah through Ibeshe Road. He added that the road would remove the problem of travelling through the metropolis to reach Lekki and its environs.
Fashola explained that construction and rehabilitation of inner roads had become important for his government. He said the state had started road works in Ogudu, Surulere, Mushin, Ajegunle, Ifako and Alimosho among others. He added that by the end of 2012, his administrationwould deliver 217 roads.
He said, “Critical areas of activities for us will be the construction and rehabilitation of inner city roads. We plan to implement the construction, rehabilitation and rebuilding of 152 inner roads across all councils in the state. In addition, there are 65 roads upon which work has commenced, bringing the total number of roads that we hope to deliver at the end of this budget cycle to 217.”
Fashola said the government was also working to implement the Lagos State Residents Registration Programme during the year.
“It applies to every persons of whatever faith, colour or ethnic group who is a Nigerian, and who lives in Lagos,” he said.
The governor added that the state would formally inaugurate the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme, to make owning a home by many residents a reality.
“We have identified several sites out of which awards have been made for the construction of housing blocks of one, two and three bedroom units in such places like Ogba, Omole, Alimosho, Lekki, Surulere, Ikorodu, Ilupeju, Amuwo Odofin, Agbowa, Magodo, among others,” he stated.
Fashola also urged all Lagosians to be vigilant and report all unusual occurrences in their neighbourhoods to the security agencies.
