Apple Loop: iPhone 5 Buyers Get In Line, The 4S Is a Hot Seller, Ive's Design Team Says Cheese

Keeping you in the loop about some of the things happening around Apple in the past week.
Apple fan-atics. Getting in line at an Apple store a day or more in advance of a new product release has become the norm in the seven years since the company released the iPhone. But given that you can pre-order the device from Apple and its wireless partners, or pick one up on opening day at a slew of outlets (Apple, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy), what motivates folks to spend a night – or four – sleeping on the sidewalk ahead of time? “I wanted to be part of the scene,” “I wanted to make sure to get one,” “It’s a fun place to hang out,” and “Why not?” were among the responses I got when I queried people at a few Apple stores in Silicon Valley. Not how I would choose to spend the night, given that the lines at most stores here cleared out after an hour or so, but to each his own. So how many did Apple sell? The company will no doubt issue a press release first thing Monday morning with the tally, but Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray expects that 8 million will be sold this opening weekend.
Trade Ins. Glyde.com, a marketplace for phones and other electronics, said that it saw a 167% increase in purchases of the iPhone 4S, far more than any other iPhone model, since yesterday. “Despite the unprecedented demand for the iPhone 5, there is still a huge community of iPhone users who are looking to spend less money by upgrading to a pre-owned iPhone 4S.”  If you’re thinking of selling an iPhone from yesteryear so you can buy an iPhone 5, here’s what the different models, in good condition, are fetching through the “speed sale” option at Glyde.com (speed sale prices show what you’ll get since the transaction and shipping kit fees have already been deducted):
